The Exhale
Releasing What Accumulated
We accumulate. Every day, from every direction.
Emotions we didn't finish. Reactions we held back. Others' energy we absorbed without noticing. Tension that stopped belonging only to the moment it arose in.
The body remembers everything. Not as thought. As tension.
This practice is built entirely on the exhale. Not the inhale. Not a correct rhythm. Only the exhale, long, slow, deliberate.
Find a position where you can fully release your body. Seated is fine. Lying down is fine.
Settling
Close your eyes. Take three ordinary breaths. Don't shape them, don't lengthen them. Simply let them be as they are.
Now notice your body. Not to change it. Simply to see what is here.
Are there places where you feel tension? Tightness? Heaviness? Don't try to release them. Simply notice them.
The Long Exhale
Take a normal inhale.
And then exhale. Twice as long as the inhale. Slow, without effort. Let the mouth be slightly open.
As you exhale, imagine that with the breath leaves what the body no longer needs to carry.
Not as an image. As an intention. As allowing.
Repeat. Inhale. Long exhale.
If you need to sigh deeply, allow it. The body knows when it needs more.
Scanning
Continue with the long exhale rhythm.
Now direct your attention toward the places of tension you noticed before.
With each exhale, direct it there. Not forcefully. Only with attention.
The tension in the shoulder, in the chest, in the belly. With each exhale, little by little, let it leave.
Don't rush. Don't measure. Simply repeat.
What Is Not Yours
There is tension that is yours. It comes from you, from your life, your decisions.
And there is tension that is not yours. That you absorbed from others, without choosing to. From a conversation, from a meeting, from a space you were in.
On the next exhale, think of what does not belong to you.
Don't analyse it. Simply with the exhale, allow it to return to where it came from.
Not as punishment. As a boundary. As a clear movement: this is mine, this is not mine.
Closing
Take three full inhales and exhales.
On the last exhale, let it be even longer than all the previous ones.
Open your eyes slowly. Stay for a moment before moving on.
The body already knows how to release. It only needed permission.
